2011 - CALVO, WILSON A.P.; MESQUITA, CARLOS H. de; SPRENGER, FRANCISCO E.; COSTA, FABIO E. da; SALVADOR, PABLO A.V.; CARVALHO, DIEGO V. de S.; HAMADA, MARGARIDA M.
The development of measurement geometry for medical X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanners carried out from the first to the fourth-generation. This concept has also been applied for imaging of industrial processes such as pipe flows or for improving design, operation, optimization and troubleshooting. Nowadays, gamma CT permits to visualize failure equipment points in three-dimensional analysis and in sections of chemical and petrochemical industries. The aim of this work is the development of the mechanical system on a third-generation industrial CT scanner to analyze laboratory gas absorption column which perform highly efficient separation, turning the 60Co, 137Cs or 192Ir sealed gamma-ray source and the NaI(Tl) multidetector array. It has also a translation movement along the column axis to obtain as many slices of the process flow as needed. The mechanical assembly for this third-generation industrial CT scanner is comprised by strength and rigidity structural frame in stainless and carbon steels, rotating table, source shield and collimator with pneumatic exposure system, spur gear system, translator, rotary stage, drives, and stepper motors. The use of suitable spur gears has given a good repeatability and high accuracy in the degree of veracity. The data acquisition boards, mechanical control interfaces, software for movement control and image reconstruction were specially development. This third-generation industrial CT scanner has obtained good spatial resolution and images. The filtered back projection (FBP) tomographic reconstruction algorithm used has shown a faster convergence. The mechanical system presented a good performance in terms of strength, rigidity, accuracy and repeatability with great potential to be used for education or program dedicated to training chemical and petrochemical industry professionals and for industrial process optimization in Brazil.

The tomography techniques are widely used in many industries, such as: chemical, food, pharmaceutical and oil sectors. In the industries the tomography is used to diagnose the state of the machines of production and also in the control of quality of the produced objects. A portable tomography system known as instant-non-scanning type, a similar version of the fourth generation CT, was developed in this work. It is capable to obtain measurements in real time conditions without interrupting the operation of the industrial production and it is useful in the quality control of the means of production and the objects produced. This paper describes an innovative hybrid industrial tomographic system, i.e., simultaneous data from the emission of an internal radioactive source introduced inside to the object (67Ga citrate) and tomographic transmission using five sources of 137Cs positioned externally to the object which are distributed at the vertices of a pentagon. The tomographic system described here is useful for studying dynamic chemical phenomena, associated or not with multiphase systems commonly found in chemical reactors and distillation columns.

A new industrial tomography system combining simultaneously the emission and transmission tomography systems
    2018 - MESQUITA, C.H.; VELO, A.F.; CALVO, W.A.; CARVALHO, D.V.; HAMADA, M.M.
The tomographic techniques can be used in many industries to explore the interior of their objects, for example, (a) to act as the quality control of industrialized products or (b) to diagnose and identify failure in their production devices. Commonly, the industrial objects are chemical reactors, packaging of foods, encapsulated medicaments, columns of petroleum distillation, combustion engines, among other industrial objects. A portable tomography system known as instant-non-scanning type, a similar version of the fourth generation CT, was developed in this work. It comprises 70 NaI(Tl) detectors with the same number of multichannel type acquisition boards. One of the advantages of industrial tomography is that it allows inferring the quality of the production line without interrupting the production. The tomographic system described in this work is capable to obtain measurements in real time and requires no movement of radiation sources and detectors. The tomographic system, proposed in this work, allows the introduction of a radioactive tracer inside the industrial object, for example a tube or chemical reactor and then the user will obtain the reconstruction images of a tomographic emission system together to the transmission image. By means of radioactive sources positioned externally to the object the user will obtain the reconstructed images of the transmission tomographic system. Therefore, this article describes an innovative hybrid industrial tomographic system, capable of generating both emission and transmission tomographic images simultaneously.

Gallium-67 citrate used as a tracer of acetone production routes
    2019 - MESQUITA, C.H. de; CALVO, W.A.P.; AOKI, P.E.; SILVA, V.C. da; HARAGUCHI, M.I.; VELO, A.F.; ALVAREZ, A.G.; HAMADA, M.M.
In this work the pathway of the chemical product and the kinetics parameters were evaluated in a laboratory plant settled, using 0.4 GBq (10 mL) of 67Ga citrate as radiotracer and 18 NaI(Tl) radiation detectors. The AnaComp program was used to estimate the kinetic para ameters of the acetone production. The yield of the acetone production was estimated by the percentage ratio between the areas under the curve (AUC) of the curve profiles of the final product compartment divided by the concentration found inside the chemical reactor whose result was 87% yield during the first 30 minutes of reaction.

In this work the pathway of the chemical product and the kinetics parameters were evaluated in a laboratory plant settled, using 40 GBq of 67Ga citrate as radiotracer and 18 NaI(Tl) radiation detectors. The AnaComp program was used to estimate the kinetic parameters of the acetone production. The yield of the acetone production was estimated by the percentage ratio between the areas under the curve (AUC) of the curve profiles of the final product compartment divided by the concentration found inside the chemical reactor whose result was 87% yield during the first 30 minutes of reaction.
