Artigo IPEN-doc 29931 Study of mechanical properties of inner tubes exposed to gamma radiation2023 - SCAGLIUSI, SANDRA R.; CARDOSO, ELISABETH C.L.; ESPER, FABIO J.; LUGAO, ADEMAR B.; WIEBECK, HELIODue to the technical evolution of tires, currently most automotive tires do not have an inner tube. However, truck, motorcycle and bicycle tires still use tires with inner tubes, mostly made of synthetic elastomeric material, which guarantees good potential for air restriction or longer periods for tire pressure failure. This work aims to study changes in the mechanical properties of a truck inner tire, after its exposure to gamma rays, to promote the subsequent recycling of the material. The choice of ionizing radiation is due to its ability to modify the structure and properties of materials, in addition to its applicability in recycling/recovering rubber. For the characterization of the samples, doses of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 kGy were applied, and after irradiation as a sample, they were tested using the following characterization methods: traction and elongation at break, hardness, thermal aging and elemental analysis. Observed that is a decrease in the values of the mechanical properties of the samples after irradiation, mainly at doses greater than 10 kGy.Artigo IPEN-doc 22009 Prevention of degradation of 'gamma'-irradiated EPDM using phenolic antioxidants2016 - ZAHARESCU, TRAIAN; ZEN, HELOISA A.; MARINESCU, MADALINA; SCAGLIUSI, SANDRA R.; CARDOSO, ELISABETH C.L.; LUGAO, ADEMAR B.Artigo IPEN-doc 08591 Temperature rising elution fractionation, infrared and rheology study on gamma irradiated HMSPP2002 - LUGAO, A.B.; NODA, L.; CARDOSO, E.C.L.; HUTZLER, B.W.; TOKUMOTO, S.; MENDES, A.N.F.Artigo IPEN-doc 08592 Temperature dependent oxidative-induction time (TOIT) of irradiated and non-irradiated polypropylene - a new method2002 - LUGAO, A.B.; CARDOSO, E.C.L.; HUTZLER, B.W.; MACHADO, L.D.B.; CONCEICAO, R.N.Artigo IPEN-doc 10423 Characterization study of gamma-irradiated high melt-strength polypropylene2003 - LUGAO, A.B.; CARDOSO, E.C.L.; LIMA, L.F.C.P.; HUTZLER, B.; TOKUMOTO, S.Artigo IPEN-doc 18231 Effect of gamma radiation of chlorobutyl rubber vulcanized by three different crosslinking systems2012 - SCAGLIUSI, SANDRA R.; CARDOSO, ELISABETH C.L.; LUGAO, ADEMAR B.Artigo IPEN-doc 18238 Radiation-induced degradation of butyl rubber vulcanized by three different crosslinking systems2012 - SCAGLIUSI, SANDRA R.; CARDOSO, ELISABETH C.L.; LUGAO, ADEMAR B.Artigo IPEN-doc 18234 Gamma-irradiated cross-linking LDPE foams: characteristics and properties2013 - CARDOSO, E.C.L.; SCAGLIUSI, S.R.; PARRA, D.F.; LUGAO, A.B.Artigo IPEN-doc 18369 Evaluation o f Payne effect in radiation-induced modification of chlorobutyl rubber2013 - SCAGLIUSI, S.R.; CARDOSO, E.C.L.; PARRA, D.F.; LIMA, L.F.C.P.; LUGAO, A.B.Artigo IPEN-doc 19109 Biodegradability of PP/HMSPP and natural and synthetic polymers blends in function of gamma irradiation degradation2014 - CARDOSO, ELISABETH C.L.; SCAGLIUSI, SANDRA R.; LIMA, LUIS F.C.P.; BUENO, NELSON R.; BRANT, ANTONIO J.C.; PARRA, DUCLERC F.; LUGAO, ADEMAR B.Polymers are used for numerous applications in different industrial segments, generating enormous quantities of discarding in the environment. Polymeric materials composites account for an estimated from 20-30% total volume of solid waste. Polypropylene (PP) undergoes crosslinking and extensive main chain scissions when submitted to ionizing irradiation; as one of the most widely used linear hydrocarbon polymers, PP, made from cheap petrochemical feed stocks, shows easy processing leading it to a comprehensive list of finished products. Consequently, there is accumulation in the environment, at 25 million tons per year rate, since polymeric products are not easily consumed by microorganisms. PP polymers are very bioresistant due to involvement of only carbon atoms in main chain with no hydrolysable functional group. Several possibilities have been considered to minimize the environmental impact caused by non-degradable plastics, subjecting them to: physical, chemical and biological degradation or combination of all these due to the presence of moisture, air, temperature, light, high energy radiation or microorganisms. There are three main classes of biodegradable polymers: synthetic polymers, natural polymers and blends of polymers in which one or more components are readily consumed by microorganisms. This work aims to biodegradability investigation of a PP/HMSPP (High Melt Strength Polypropylene) blended with sugarcane bagasse, PHB (Polyhydroxy-butyrate) and PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid), both synthetic polymers, at a 10% level, subjected to gamma radiation at 50, 100, 150 and 200 kGy doses. Characterization will comprise IR, DSC, TGA, OIT and Laboratory Soil Burial Test (LSBT).
