    Obtenção e caracterização de polímero reforçado com fibras da folha de milho

    There is a global trend in seeking plant fibers to replace the synthetic fibers to obtain reinforced composites aimed at the use of renewable resources. In this context, this paper aims to develop the process of preparing maize leaf fibers, characterizing them and adapting them for applications in the construction industry and develop a reinforced polymer composite with these fibers. Corn leaves were dried in environmental tempera-ture, treated by mercerizing, then neutralized with acid solution and ashed in running water. The characteri-zation of the corn leaf fibers was carried out by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron mi-croscopy, specific surface area, thermogravimetry and specific mass. The mercerizing treatment was effec-tive, because the maize fibers have characteristics similar to synthetic fibers, leading to a possibility of new technological uses. The polymeric composite material was developed by extrusion processes and injection and tested for tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy, thus reused an organic waste that would be disposed of by inserting it in a technological process, contributing to the re-search and development of new polymeric materials as well as to reduce waste discarded as scrap.

    Oxygen stoichiometry of Basub(0.50)Srsub(0.50)Cosub(0.80)Fesub(0.20)Osub(3-'delta') obtained by EDTA-citrate method and measured by X-ray and neutron diffraction

    The compound Ba0.50Sr0.50Co0.80Fe0.20O3–d (BSCF) has been used as a good candidate for air electrodes in Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. Present work deals with the oxygen vacancy of this compound synthesized by using the EDTA–Citrate method. To obtain a single-phase sample, three portions of the compound were calcined at 700, 800 and 900 C. Only the sample calcined at 900 C showed a single phase. The stoichiometry of the single-phase sample, in particular of the oxygen atom, was determined by applying the combined X-ray and neutron Rietveld refinement to X-ray and neutron powder diffraction patterns measured with the sample.

    Caracterização do resíduo sólido proveniente do processo galvânico para valorização econômica ambiental

    O processo galvânico consiste na deposição de uma camada fina de metal sobre uma superfície metálica ou plástica. Este processo gera grande volume de efluentes que devem ser tratados para atender as legislações ambientais. O sistema de tratamento de efluentes é responsável pela geração do resíduo sólido galvânico, também chamado de lodo galvânico. As análises químicas e físico-químicas realizadas demonstram que o sistema de tratamento da empresa em estudo opera incorretamente, produzindo lodo galvânico em excesso. O teor de umidade deste resíduo galvânico foi de 63,5%, significando que o principal constituinte do lodo é água. Pelo potencial risco ambiental deste lodo gerado, avaliou-se o seu valor econômico ambiental pela somatória dos custos decorrentes do processo de tratamento de efluentes, da destinação final do resíduo galvânico e das perdas das substâncias químicas a base de cobre, cromo e níquel. A quantidade destes elementos químicos no resíduo galvânico foram 3,71, 3,34 e 0,58%, respectivamente. O valor econômico ambiental obtido foi de R$ 30.362,90 por ano, comprovando o potencial econômico ambiental do resíduo galvânico.
