Artigo IPEN-doc 30414 Studying scientific collaboration networks using social network analysis and structural equation modeling2024 - MONTEIRO, CARLOS A.; MENEZES, MARIO O. de; BARROSO, ANTONIO C.O.The main objective of this study was to define a conceptual model to identify latent issues that involve the scientific collaboration in a R&D environment. We have used two complementary approaches to study scientific collaboration. At first, structural equation modeling with partial least squares was used to evaluate and test a conceptual model based on personal, behavioral, cultural and circumstantial factors to identify which of these factors best explain the propensity of authors of technical and scientific publications to establish collaboration links with each other. The first part produced a second order latent variable named “propensity to collaborate”. In the second part, we evaluate if and how this propensity to collaborate is reflected in the structural position of these authors in the R&D coauthorship network of our case study, . The findings showed that the proposed factors moderately explain the authors' collaboration propensity in a R&D environment. Although the model has not been satisfactory to explain the authors' structural position in the coauthorship network, however, it was a starting point to study scientific collaboration using structural equation modeling and social network analysis.Artigo IPEN-doc 28502 An expedited model to appraise project management office value2021 - AZEVEDO JUNIOR, JAIR; BARROSO, ANTONIO C. de O.; MONTEIRO, CARLOS A.This study presents the development of a practical model to evaluate the perception of Project Management Office value as seen by project managers. Questions compiled through literature review and interaction with project managers are presented first. An exploratory factor analysis was used to define the best grouping of the items within factors that could be interpretable under the reviewed literature. To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed model, we performed a confirmatory analysis using the Partial Least Square variant of the Structural Equation Modeling. The model demonstrated good convergent validity, very good discriminant validity, and reliability. In addition, the values of its determination and path coefficients were well above the classically recommended values and were also statistically significant. Within the limitations of the tests we done thus far, it appears that a practical, robust, and potentially functional predictive model was achieved.Artigo IPEN-doc 22578 Preservation of knowledge through networking with retirees2010 - BARROSO, A.C.O.; REIS-JUNIOR, J.S.B.; MONTEIRO, C.A.; SEARY, A.Nuclear organizations, in most countries, have for many years endured a process of a reducing workforce and of a shift of the average age of their technical professionals towards the mid fifties range. Loss of emphasis or phasing down of their nuclear programs has reduced substantially the hiring of new employees. As a result some knowledge management activities with emphasis on knowledge preservation have been undertaken in many such organizations. This work is part of an ongoing research effort aimed at studying spontaneously emerged knowledge preservation mechanisms at IPEN that could be leveraged and may be replicated in other organizations. In a previous paper recently presented at the XXIX Sunbelt Social Networks Conference a first round of results were presented, with emphasis on: (a) measuring the output of the network; (b) characterization of its key global properties and those of its key players; and (d) test of its robustness.
