    Characterization of biodegradable mulch black films incorporated with organics fertilizers and rice husk ash

    The effects of organic fertilizer, rice husk ash, both from renewable resources, were evaluated. Both of them were incorporated in biodegradable black mulch films. Morphological, mechanical and thermal properties based on PBAT/PLA composites with 2 % wt. of carbon black were investigated. In addition, the formulations were prepared with 1 % wt. to 2 % wt. rice husk ash and 2 % wt. to 4 % wt. % organic fertilizer The samples were produced by melt extrusion process, using a twin screw extruder machine and blown film extrusion process. As can be seen the properties of biodegradable mulch film samples were investigated by tensile tests, XRD, FTIR, TG, MEV analyses. Correlation between properties were discussed. According to the results it is possible to apply this composite as film for agricultural protection.

    Efeito da radiação ionizante nas propriedades mecânicas da poliamida 610 com reforço de fibra de vidro

    A poliamida 610, em razão de sua densidade e absorção de água menor quando comparada com as poliamidas 6 e 66, é um importante polímero de engenharia com diversas aplicações na indústria automotiva; tais como: mangueiras e peças que tenham contato com combustível, ”quickly conector”, peças estruturais reforçadas com fibra de vidro, entre outras. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o efeito da radiação ionizante nas propriedades mecânicas de alongamento, impacto com e sem entalhe Charpy, flexão, módulo de flexão, tração e módulo de elasticidade da poliamida 610 reforçada com 30% de fibra de vidro. Os corpos de prova das amostras de poliamida 610, com reforço de 30% de fibra de vidro, foram irradiados com feixe de elétrons provenientes de um acelerador de elétrons Dynamitron JOB 188 - energia de 0,5 a 1,5 MeV e corrente de 0,3 a 25 mA - com diferentes doses de radiação: 100, 200, 300 e 400 kGy. As análises dos ensaios mecânicos, realizados neste trabalho, mostraram que houve perda nas propriedades mecânicas quando comparadas com os resultados dos corpos de prova irradiados e não irradiados; provocando um amolecimento no material nas amostras irradiadas. Este comportamento poderia ser em razão da maior quantidade de grupos CH2 presentes na poliamida 610 em comparação com a poliamida 6 e 66.

    Ionizing radiation effects on properties of polyamide composites with colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil) and talc

    For a sustainable development, the possibilities of obtaining ecologically correct raw materials that increase the dimensional properties and reduce cost are very much desired in the industrial sector. The possibility of replacing the mineral talc powder with the colloidal silicon dioxide (AEROSIL) as mineral filler to polyamide 6 compounds was tested. AEROSIL is an amorphous substance with low density that satisfies the consumer demands. In this study both fillers – talc and AEROSIL – used in PA6 were irradiated and their properties of density and impact were analyzed. As a result both compounds demonstrated the same behavior when irradiated and not irradiated. The results have demonstrated that AEROSIL may be a viable alternative filler for replacing talc as mineral filler in polyamide 6 compounds. Thus this work contributes for minimizing environmental problems by enabling the use of AEROSIL in productive processes.

    Mechanical and thermal comparison analyses in polyamide 6 compounds with talc mineral filler and Aerosil®

    In order to have sustainable development, it is very desirable that the possibilities of obtaining ecologically acceptable raw materials that increase dimensional properties and reduce cost in the industrial sector are explored. In this sense, the possibility of replacing mineral talc powder with the colloidal silicon dioxide (AEROSIL® ) as a mineral filler in polyamide 6 (PA 6) compounds was tested. AEROSIL® is an amorphous substance with low density that satisfies consumer demands. In this study both fillers – talc and colloidal silicon dioxide – used with PA 6 were explored. Moreover, their density and properties in terms of thermogravimetric analysis (TG) were evaluated. Additional mechanical tests such as tensile strength, elongation at break and impact resistance were also carried out. The tests concluded both compounds (PA 6 with colloidal silicon dioxide and PA 6 with talc) demonstrated the same behavior. The results have demonstrated that colloidal silicon dioxide may be viable alternative filler for replacing talc as mineral filler in polyamide 6 compounds. Thus, this work contributes to minimizing environmental problems by enabling the use of colloidal silicon dioxide in the productive process.
