    Implementation of an installation for the new activimeter calibration methodology

    Considering the frequent development of research projects and the services provided by the Instrument Calibration Laboratory (LCI), to implement the calibration of activity measuring instruments, it was necessary to build a new dedicated laboratory for this purpose. After the layout project carried out, the physical installations were started, following the radiological protection service plans according to the National Nuclear Energy Commission rules . In order to ensure greater reliability in the measurements and to facilitate the transport of radioactive sources, a new methodology of in situ calibration and quality control of activimeters was developed. This paper presents the implementations made in the new LCI installation for the implementation of the new activitymeter calibration methodology operationalization.

    Avaliação da atenuação de invólucros produzidos em impressora 3D para medidas com calibrador de dose

    Devido ao aumento de procedimentos realizados nos Serviços de Medicina Nuclear (SMN) tornou-se cada vez mais inevitável a preocupação com o perfeito funcionamento dos calibradores de dose utilizados diariamente. Ainda assim, a prática segura, eficiente e eficaz do uso do equipamento envolve a integração de vários processos. O objetivo deste trabalho é o projeto e desenvolvimento de novos invólucros por meio da prototipação utilizando uma impressora 3D. Os materiais escolhidos foram o PLA e o ABS. Foram realizados testes de precisão e exatidão variando os parâmetros de impressão e as dimensões do invólucro. Os resultados mostraram que é possível customizar os invólucros melhorando os resultados e reduzindo as incertezas no controle de qualidade desses equipamentos.

    Behavior analysis of the activity meter in standard fields

    The measurements good practices consists in the periodic control of the results obtained by the instruments, the main objective of the quality control in the activity meter is to guarantee that its response is being constant over time and, the results are trustable in relation to the references. The objective of this study was to perform a comparison of the behavior of 12 activity meters that are located inside of the IPEN’s Radiopharmacy Center. These equipment were submitted to periodic tests using the reference sources of 57Co, 133Ba and 137Cs. To evaluate their behavior the accuracy and precision tests were applied individually to the well-type ionization chamber. Based on the survey accomplished, we can verify through the failures presented on the accuracy performance that the activity meters are instruments that need a periodic verification, requesting adjusts and recalibration.
