INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SMALL MODULAR REACTORS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS
Resumo
Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have emerged as a promising alternative for
decarbonization, with significant advantages in terms of flexibility, safety and cost. Their
success depends on technical feasibility, an adequate regulatory framework and public
acceptance. Based on a comprehensive systematic literature review, the aim of this
study is to analyze public perception and acceptance of Small Modular Reactors. For its
development, the PRISMA methodology (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic
Reviews and Meta-Analyses) was used in the scientific databases Scopus and Web of
Science, using descriptors related to the subject under investigation. The results were
synthesized systematically, identifying patterns, trends and gaps in the literature related
to public perception and acceptance of SMRs. The main concerns raised by the studies
were highlighted, as were the factors that positively or negatively influence the
acceptance of these technologies, as well as the implications of the evidence for public
policy, regulation and the practice of the nuclear industry.
