dc.description.abstractHydrogen is a promising energy carrier, which potentially could replace the fossil fuels used in the transportation and distributed energy sector o f Brazilian economy. Fossi/ fuels are polluting by carbogenic emissions from their combustion, being so co-responsible for present global warming. However, no large scale, costeffective, environmental/y non-carbogenic hydrogen production process is currently available for commercialization. There are feasible possibilities to use electrolysis as one of lhe main sources of hydrogen, especially thinking on combination with renewab/e sources of energy, mainly eolic and solar. ln this work some perspectives for Brazilian e n e r g y c o n t ext is presented, where electrolysis combined with renewable power source and fuel ce/1 power generation would be a good basis to improve the distributed energy supply for remofe areas, where lhe electricity grid is not present or is deficient.
