Value of information as a criterion for sample size determination in radioactivewaste characterization

Abstract

This work is part of a research that objectives to determine the waste radioisotopic inventory from the two Brazilian NPP in operation using the scaling factors methodology. So, considering the large volume of packages to be characterized, the sampling is a sensitive step. We intend to consider the financial and radiological protection cost, the radiological detriment and the foundations of the ALARA to determine a method to calculate the ideal number of samples applicable to the characterization of radioactive waste and complementary to classical statistics method. Thus, we will define a tool for making more legitimate decisions.
